Ingredients
4-5 lb (1.8-2.3 kg) pork shoulder
2 tbsp (30 ml) brown sugar
1 tbsp (15 ml) paprika
1 tbsp (15 ml) salt
1 tsp (5 ml) black pepper
1 tsp (5 ml) garlic powder
1 tsp (5 ml) onion powder
1 / 2 tsp (2.5 ml) cayenne pepper
1 cup (240 ml) apple cider vinegar
1 cup (240 ml) chicken broth
1 cup (240 ml) barbecue sauce
Sandwich buns
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
2. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour in the apple cider vinegar and chicken broth. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
3. Once done, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
4. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the barbecue sauce. Cook on low for an additional 30 minutes.
5. Serve the pulled pork hot on sandwich buns, with extra barbecue sauce if desired.
