Ingredients

- 1 lb (454 g) ground beef
- 2 slices day-old white bread, torn, approx. 2 oz (56 g)
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
- 1 tsp (6 g) salt
- 1/2 tsp (1.5 g) ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp (30 g) butter for frying

Instructions

1. Tear the bread and soak it briefly in the milk, then squeeze out excess and mash into a paste. Mix the bread paste with ground beef, grated onion, egg, salt, and pepper until just combined.
2. Shape the mixture into small, walnut-sized meatballs. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides, working in batches if necessary, until cooked through (internal temperature 160°F / 71°C), about 8–10 minutes total.
3. Transfer meatballs to a plate; optionally deglaze pan with a splash of water or stock to make a quick pan sauce from the browned bits. Serve hot.
