Ingredients
- 1 loaf unsalted Tuscan bread (pane toscano), sliced into 8 thick slices, approx. 1 lb (450 g)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) extra-virgin olive oil, plus extra for drizzling
- 2 garlic cloves, halved (approx. 10 g)
- 1/2 tsp (2 g) coarse sea salt, or to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste (optional)
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary for rubbing or garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat, or prepare a hot charcoal grill. Lightly toast the bread slices on both sides until golden and crisp, about 1–2 minutes per side.
2. While the bread is hot, rub each toasted slice immediately with the cut side of a garlic half so the heat releases the garlic flavor; repeat for stronger garlic taste.
3. Drizzle about 1/2 tbsp (7.5 ml) extra-virgin olive oil over each slice, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and add freshly ground black pepper if using.
4. Optionally rub a rosemary sprig over the warm bread before serving or garnish with a small leaf. Serve immediately so the bread remains crisp and fragrant.
